I work as a Business Analyst

I turn messy operational data into decisions people can act on. SQL to find the problem, dashboards to make it obvious, and BPMN plus a clear requirements document to fix the process behind it.

01 / About

From a computer science and business degree to analysis work I actually enjoy.

I studied computer science and business at Saint Mary's University and spent a few years in front-line and support roles, where I kept gravitating to the same thing: figuring out why a process was slow, pulling the numbers to prove it, and writing down a fix the team could follow.

These days I work in IT and clinical systems support at Nova Scotia Health, and I am moving deliberately toward Business and Systems Analyst work. To show what that looks like rather than just claim it, I built seven projects end to end: real datasets queried in SQL, interactive dashboards, BPMN process maps with as-is and to-be states, and business requirements documents that tie every change back to a measured finding.

I like the analyst job because it sits between people and systems. You have to listen well, ask the awkward question, and then leave behind something concrete: a number, a diagram, a spec. That is the work in the cards below, and most of it is live and clickable.

Seven projects, built to be opened.

Each one links straight to a live demo and the source on GitHub. Filter by what you want to see. Two are live, real-time data apps; the rest cover SQL analysis, process design, and requirements.

City Pulse

A zero-cost operations command center for New York City's 311 service requests. A scheduled job pulls fresh data every hour, and the page turns it into live KPIs, a Leaflet incident map, a measured 311 process map, a what-if resolution-time simulator, and an auto-populated BRD you can print to PDF.

SkyTrace

A FlightRadar-style radar that shows aircraft in the sky right now. It refreshes live ADS-B data every eight seconds and dead-reckons each plane between updates so they glide instead of jump. Click any aircraft for callsign, type, altitude, country, and, for scheduled flights, the route and a live ETA. No API keys, no backend.

TechNova Attrition Analysis

A full analyst case study on employee attrition. SQL on 1,470 employees finds the drivers (overtime staff leave at 30.5% versus 10.4%, first-year attrition hits 34.5%), an interactive dashboard makes it land, and a BRD plus an as-is/to-be BPMN redesign propose a Retention Early-Warning System. The whole chain runs from data to a one-page executive summary.

Olist E-Commerce Fulfillment

Twelve analytical SQL queries on roughly 96,000 real Brazilian marketplace orders, with an interactive Chart.js dashboard on top. It surfaces a 4.5x regional gap in late deliveries, the direct link between late shipping and review scores, and a 3.2% repeat-customer rate that points straight at retention as the highest-ROI lever.

Healthcare Patient Intake

Why does one in five patients miss a primary-care appointment? Ten SQL queries on 110,527 real appointment records find the causes (long booking horizons, a single late SMS, a tiny frequent-no-show cohort), and a redesigned digital-front-door intake answers each one. Every BPMN element traces back to a specific SQL finding, with a projected drop from 20.2% to 13.5%.

Loan Approval Redesign

A Systems Analyst package for a retail bank's loan approval workflow. A process narrative and as-is BPMN expose a 9 to 12 day turnaround built on manual credit pulls and serial review. The to-be design adds an automated scoring API, parallel compliance and underwriting, and digital signing to target two days, with a traceability matrix linking every gap to a requirement.

Public Benefits Navigator

A screening tool that tells people which benefits they likely qualify for (SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, WIC, LIHEAP, EITC). The design decision is the point: a deterministic, fully tested Python rules engine makes every eligibility call, and the language model only parses free-text intake and explains the result. It never gets to decide. The rules suite is a hard CI gate that already caught two of my own wrong thresholds.
